Using the library

Download:

$ git clone https://github.com/piface/libmcp23s17.git
$ git clone https://github.com/piface/libpifacecad.git

Build the library:

$ cd libmcp23s17/ && make && cd -
$ cd libpifacecad/ && make

This creates the library libpifacecad.a.

Build and run the example and the pifacecad utility for command line control:

$ make example
$ ./example

$ make pifacecad
$ ./pifacecad open
$ ./pifacecad open blinkoff cursoroff
$ ./pifacecad read switches # read switch port
$ ./pifacecad -b2 read switch # read switch 2 (0-7)
$ ./pifacecad write "Hello world" # write to the screen
$ ./pifacecad backlight on # backlight 'on' or 'off'
$ ./pifacecad setcursor 5 1
$ ./pifacecad home
$ ./pifacecad clear
$ ./pifacecad --help

Include the library in your project with:

$ gcc -o example example.c -Isrc/ -L. -lpifacecad -L../libmcp23s17/ -lmcp23s17

-I directories to search for header files. -L directories to search for libraries. -l libraries to link.
